How To Store Holiday Lights

One of the most important things you need to decide when the post-holiday season begins is where and how to store holiday lights. No matter how much you hate going through the hassle of stashing these lights in a safe and secure way, carefully storing them will make it easier for you to use them next year, plus it will also ensure that you don’t have to spend money again to buy new lights.

Obviously, before putting away your holiday lighting away, you would like to make sure that all your lights are in working order. If you come across any broken holiday light, worn cords or other non-repairable damage, then it may be better to say goodbye to that particular item.

If you are going for the traditional way of winding the cords around your hand, then the best way is to gently hold the plug in your palm and then twirl your hand in an L-shape. Now loop the cord around the arm and between the forefinger and thumb, using the other hand until the whole cord is tidily wrapped up around the hand.

If, on the other hand, you want to do away with the old-fashioned wrapping technique and want to do something more neatly this year, then there are many different methods that you can use. Try using unused wrapping paper containers. You are very likely to have them at your house, so why not make use of them in a good way. You can leave a tiny hole in every end of the container, thread one end of a set of outdoor holiday lights through the opening and then wrap the lights around the container. After that, simply thread the second end through the other opening and that’s it.

You can even use pieces of cardboard to keep your lighting safe. In fact, stashing lights becomes easier when you use cardboard pieces and cut them to fit plastic storage tubes. In addition, you can also purchase storage reels for lights from online retailers that will help keep your entire lighting neatly and securely stored in one place.

Storage kits are another option you can use for storing your lights if you are not comfortable with methods mentioned above. Using these kits, you can stash your holiday lights into a plastic container. Once the lights are inside the container, they can be rolled up until you require them next time.
